Message From the President – October 2023

President’s Letter – October 2023

Did you know that October is Family History Month? What a great time to start our fall programs! Did you enjoy our program this month on “Being German in 1920s America” by Michelle Spencer? In November, our program is “Who Is That Mystery DNA Match?” by Diane Henriks.

All of our Special Interest Groups have started. The NGS Book Club meets the second Monday morning of each month at 9. The DNA Special Interest Group meets the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. We are working on a new Special Interest Group and will announce it soon.

At the beginning of the year, we started a monthly Genealogy Chat group as an experiment. It has been well received and we are going to continue it. Our Special Interest Groups are for members only, but the Genealogy Chat is for both members and nonmembers. That group is just for informal discussions each month about genealogy. Because we allow nonmembers, bring friends along – maybe they’ll enjoy it so much that they will become members.

We’ve reorganized some of our duties by including the responsibility of the newsletter and all social media content within the communications committee – this will better convey genealogy news to our members. Any member can be on the communications committee, so please consider joining that it to help. You do not need to be a board member.

We are also looking for volunteers to be on the committee to nominate new board members. This committee will be forming in January to fill open positions. Voting is at the annual meeting in June.

Thank you for supporting Northland Genealogy Society!

Elna Cox, President, Northland Genealogy Society
